Nexus for Development, through its Pioneer Facility fund, has announced a second investment of $300,000 in TapEffect, a specialist rural utilities developer and manager serving Cambodia and the region underscoring its continued confidence in the company’s mission and growth potential. This investment will support TapEffect in expanding its infrastructure at a fourth piped water station, part of a project to bring clean and affordable water to an additional 6,000 households, nine schools, and three healthcare centers in underserved rural communities.
This latest financing highlights Pioneer Facility’s commitment to driving catalytic climate and social impact by investing in enterprises that provide essential services to vulnerable populations. TapEffect, a social enterprise dedicated to solving Cambodia’s rural water crisis, has already demonstrated the viability and impact of its business model through previous financing rounds, including its first successful loan from Pioneer Facility.
“Safe water access is not just a fundamental human right, it’s a cornerstone for economic development, public health, and climate resilience,” said Michelle Lowery, Head of Marketing at Nexus for Development. “Our second investment in TapEffect reflects our firm belief in their ability to deliver long-term impact and scale sustainable solutions for Cambodia’s water sector. TapEffect is proving that market-based solutions can bridge critical infrastructure gaps while improving lives.”
Despite significant improvements in Cambodia’s water sector, nearly 75% of the rural population still lacks access to reliable piped water. TapEffect addresses this gap by deploying and operating infrastructure that brings reliable water coverage to underserved communities. By modernizing rural utilities with professional management and technology development, TapEffect expands access while building resilience against climate-related water scarcity and contamination challenges.
“Our partnership with Pioneer Facility has been instrumental in allowing us to scale our operations and accelerate the transition to clean, safe water for thousands of families,” said Nick Boerema, CEO of TapEffect. “This second investment validates our vision and helps us build the technology and infrastructure necessary for lasting impact.”
Nexus for Development’s Pioneer Facility provides targeted debt financing to climate and social enterprises operating in emerging markets. By supporting TapEffect’s expansion, the fund continues to address the financing gap that hinders sustainable development solutions in Southeast Asia.
