Nutritional feed block for cattle
Project type
Carbon project (FS & LOAs)

In Lao PDR, small-scale farming is considered the backbone of the rural economy. Yet poor animal health and low productivity limit farmers’ livelihoods. At the same time, cattle are a major source of harmful methane emissions, one of the most potent drivers of climate change, and practical, innovative and scalable mitigation solutions remain limited across the region.
AgCoTech: The Innovative Agri-Tech Enterprise
AgCoTech is an agri-tech social enterprise tackling this dual challenge. The company focuses on an innovative medicated supplement block for cattle and buffalo. Through its proprietary feed technology, it improves cattle health, welfare, and productivity while reducing enteric methane emissions by up to 40%. The approach delivers immediate benefits for farmers while creating high-integrity, scalable emissions reductions across the livestock sector.

Nexus for Development’s Role in Enabling AgCoTech to Scale Through Carbon Markets
Carbon markets offer a powerful growth lever for AgCoTech, enabling the enterprise to scale faster by converting methane reductions into sustainable, long-term revenue. But before accessing these markets, AgCoTech needed proof that its model was viable and met rigorous carbon standards.
This is where Nexus for Development stepped in. Our carbon experts supported AgCoTech’s carbon reduction feasibility study and conducted a detailed technical assessment to validate the project’s eligibility for high-integrity carbon markets.
Together, we are now in the process of registering carbon credit projects across the Global South. The AgCoTech Lao PDR project has already secured Letters of Authorization (LoAs) for upcoming projects in Lao PDR and Cambodia, enabling carbon credits to be sold internationally and designed to meet full CORSIA eligibility.
Nexus will continue to support AgCoTech as it scales its pipeline across Cambodia, Lao PDR, Thailand, Lesotho, and Kenya, unlocking carbon finance to accelerate both climate impact and enterprise growth.
The AgCoTech impact
- Farmer income: Using AgCoTech’s medicated Block technology along with their dedicated farmer education can generate positive gains in farmer household wealth. In real terms, one additional litre of milk per day per family has a profound effect on a child’s nutrition. One extra buffalo calf has the equivalent value of a year’s working wage in less developed nations.
- Climate action: Reduces Laos’s methane footprint, helping meet Paris Agreement pledges.
- Carbon Credit Generation: The methane reduction is verified to create carbon credits, sold to companies for offsetting, creating a new revenue stream for the project.
- Local Production: AgCoTech has a factory in Laos, creating local jobs and consistent supply.
Nexus for Development: Continuing to help potential carbon projects grow
With 15+ years of carbon finance expertise, we will continue to support a high-impact projects deliver both environmental benefits and sustainable economic development for low-income communities across Southeast Asia.
