In Bangladesh, smallholder farmers often struggle to access quality farming inputs and the finance they need to grow crops. Without an affordable loan or a reliable source of capital, they are unable to afford quality seeds or inputs. This restricts their ability to produce sufficient crop yields and capitalize on market opportunities.

iFarmer, a pioneering agri-tech firm, is meeting this challenge head-on with an innovative, comprehensive agri-tech platform designed to radically transform the rural economy. iFarmer’s solution is an agri-economic ecosystem that digitizes support and provides financial advisory services and quality inputs directly to farmers.

In 2025, iFarmer secured a strategic $500,000 working capital loan from the Pioneer Facility fund, an impact fund managed by Nexus for Development. This three-year debt investment is the Pioneer Facility’s inaugural move into Bangladesh market, and we are proud to help in endorsing the local potential of tech-driven social development solutions.

The funds will enable iFarmer to drastically increase its operational capacity and reach more farmers with access to high-quality agricultural inputs, financial support, agri-advisory and fair market linkages. By bridging the gap between farmers and suppliers as well as the financial gaps between farmers and banks and market access, iFarmer helps improve yields, enhance incomes, and promote sustainable agriculture practices.

The Pioneer Facility’s mission is to drive climate-positive impact through catalytic debt financing. By supporting companies like iFarmer, the fund plays a key role in fostering inclusive economic growth and climate resilience in emerging markets.

“With this funding from the Pioneer Facility, we can expand our reach and support even more farmers with better access to financing and high-quality inputs. This investment will help strengthen our supply chains and enhance the livelihoods of thousands of farmers across Bangladesh.”  said Fahad Ifaz, Co-founder & CEO at iFarmer.

At Nexus for Development, we continue to seek and support high-impact enterprises that operate at intersection of climate, gender, and poverty alleviation.

Beyond finance for farmers:

By bridging the gap between farmers, quality suppliers, and end markets, iFarmer is providing smallholder farmers with new opportunities for improved livelihoods:

  • Income security: Smallholders farmers can access the B2B supply chain resulting in fair prices, reducing exploitation by middlemen and stabilizing household income, allowing families to plan and invest for the future.
  • Knowledge with productivity: The mobile app helps to provide real-time weather updates and lessons for cultivation that can help farmers improve their farm productivity.
  • Health and nutrition: Increased farm revenue allows families and communities to access stable food suppliers, which is one of the backbones for countries to reduce starvation in population.
  • Women’s empowerment: As farm operations become more profitable and efficient through better access to inputs and markets, women often gain increase agency in household financial decision and income generation activities.
